We are thrilled to invite you to join the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra for a very special season: a celebration of 50 years of music!
This landmark season for the KSO will open with our Fall Concert: Romantic Splendor featuring some of the most beautiful works from the romantic period. You will hear Felix Mendelssohn’s mysterious and enigmatic overture, The Hebrides, also known as “Fingal’s Cave”; Sergei Rachmaninoff’s epic Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, featuring pianist Adam Neiman; and finally the monumental Symphony No. 3 in C Minor by Camile Saint-Saëns, also known as the “Organ Symphony.”
Also in October, we invite you to attend our free Halloween concerts. These festive concerts, in which our orchestra performs in costume, are a favorite for musicians and audience members alike. Come in costume yourself!
December brings our Holiday Pops: Winter Wonderland concerts, the perfect way to celebrate the season. Nothing beats sharing holiday music with friends, family, and community. is year, we are fortunate to have the DeKalb Festival Chorus join us for Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Serenade to Music.
In February, we honor our beloved former conductor and educator Arthur D. Montzka with the annual Young Artists Concert, featuring the winner of our concerto competition. Our concert will begin with Aaron Copland’s gorgeous Appalachian Spring, encompassing complex dance rhythms along with beautiful and peaceful musical landscapes of the American frontier. Closing out the evening will be Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, a musical journey through 1001 Arabian nights.
In March, the KSO will bring the glitz and glamour of the Big Apple to DeKalb for our Spring Pops Concert: The KSO Goes to Broadway.
In April, our Golden Anniversary season finale will conclude with Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, a concert featuring the NIU University Choir and Concert Choir. It will be a glorious finish to a year-long celebration of all that the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra has brought to our community for the past fifty years. We can’t wait to share this season with you.
