Gretchen Moore

Position: President, Kishwaukee Symphony Associates

Growing up in a musical family, interest in all aspects of music comes naturally to Gretchen Moore. Soon after retiring from NIU’s College of Education in 2000, where her major responsibility was coordinating the university’s secondary education teacher certification programs, Gretchen was tapped by Annette Johns and Marilyn Bazeli to head up Kishwaukee Symphony Associates.

Gretchen’s biggest joy is to rally the troops in support of the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra. During Gretchen’s tenure, the KSA:

  • Established the KSO Endowment Fund in 2001, through the DeKalb County Community Foundation
  • Was named 2012 Orchestra Guild of the Year by the Illinois Council of Orchestras
  • Initiated the KSO Music Education Outreach Fund in 2019

“I credit the KSA’s 40+ years of success in fundraising for the orchestra to the strong, dedicated, and smart women of the KSA Planning Committee and to the KSA’s loyal members over the years,” says Gretchen.

In addition to her work for the orchestra, Gretchen enjoys her friends, the arts, reading, an eclectic variety of music and movies, walking, yoga, and learning. “My late husband, Charles, always encouraged me to follow my path, and I always do,” says Gretchen.
