Jerrold Zar

Jerry Zar has been a member of the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors since 2004 and secretary of the KSO since 2008. He played in the symphony’s trumpet section from 1984 until his retirement from trumpeting in 2014. He also played trumpet as a member of the orchestra’s brass quintet, and as a founding member of Kishwaukee Concert Band from 2002 to 2014.

As a Board member, he has worked closely with the four most recent KSO presidents and commends their effectiveness and commitment to the orchestra. He is also an officer and board member of the Kishwaukee Concert Band and a longtime fan of the DeKalb Municipal Band. Prior to his 2002 retirement from Northern Illinois University, Jerry was a member of the faculty of the Department of Biological Sciences for 34 years, the last 18 of which he was also Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Research and Dean of the Graduate School.

He looks forward to collaborating with the current members of the KSO Board of Directors in maintaining the excellence of the orchestra and furthering its mission of musically serving the community.
