Valerie Garver

Position: Board Member

Valerie Garver joined the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors in 2023. Growing up in Omaha, Nebraska she played the piano and violin and sang in a youth choir. As an undergraduate, she sang in a madrigal choir. Once she started graduate school, however, she became much more an admirer of musical talent than an active musician. She is now Chair and Professor of History at Northern Illinois University, and after living in DeKalb for the last 20 years and seeing the many benefits to her daughters of growing up in such a musical community, she is delighted to support the KSO’s mission to educate and inspire the community through music.
