Jonathan switched from violin to bass 51 years ago and has never looked back. It has opened so many opportunities for me – it seems everyone needs a bass player! Jonathan played in orchestra and concert band throughout high school and college. He even met his wife in concert band in college; she sat next to him. He earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education and taught for many years in Minnesota and Iowa, performing with community orchestras and in the pit for numerous musicals.
Jonathan joined the KSO in the spring of 2018 and loves playing with the KSO because of the music we are able to play at such a high level. Jonathan comments, “It is the best community orchestra I have ever played with. I never believed I would get the chance to be in an orchestra that could perform Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, and yet that is what we did in my first year. I have played music I have long wanted to play and have been introduced to music I didn’t know I would love.”
At the moment, in addition to playing with the KSO, Jonathan plays with the DeKalb Municipal Band and Sinfonietta Bel Canto in Downers Grove. He loves to read, travel with his family, and attend operas and musicals.
