Ken Goodman

Ken Goodman received his B.S. in Music Education from the University of Illinois and his M.M. in Wind Conducting from Louisiana State University.  His primary teachers have been Frank Wickes for conducting and Steve Cohen and David Harris for clarinet.  Ken serves as Director of Bands at Sycamore High School.  Under his direction, the band program has received numerous accolades, and the SHS Music Department won the IHSA Class A Music Sweepstakes in 2023 and has placed in the top three of the IHSA Class A Music Sweepstakes seven times.

Having served the Illinois Music Education Association in several different capacities, Ken is currently the ILMEA District 8 President.  In 2022, he was appointed Music Director of the Rockford Wind Ensemble, a professional ensemble of musicians from the greater Rockford area.  Ken has also been a member of the clarinet section of the Wheaton Municipal Band for over 35 years.

Ken lives in Sycamore with his wife Terri, a former choral music educator and an accomplished singer, actor, and pianist, and their daughter, Alise, a two-time all-state flute player.  Traveling and attending musical productions are two of their favorite pastimes.  Ken has visited every state in the U.S. except Alaska.
