Piccolo and Flute
Lynn Hansen has enjoyed playing the flute since she was in grade school, playing in bands, orchestra musicals, and marching band. She attended Augustana College and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from DePaul University.
Lynn moved to DeKalb to earn her master’s degree at NIU and is a speech-language pathologist in the DeKalb school system. She plays the flute and piccolo with the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, in Stage Coach Players’ musicals, at church, and as principal flute with the DeKalb Municipal Band. She loves teaching the flute to young people through the NIU Community School of the Arts.
The joys of Lynn’s life are her two sons; Russ loves working on cars and Ian is a trombone player and singer at St. Olaf College. It’s impossible for her to pick a favorite composer but Bach, Tchaikovsky, and Beethoven are among her top choices. She loves Baroque music and symphonies. “It’s wonderful having a challenging career plus being able to continue to play the music that I love. Playing my flute is what rejuvenates me when life gets too busy”
