Summer Lesson Scholarships
KSO Summer Lesson Scholarships Criteria and Procedures
The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra Summer Lessons Scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $125.00 to music students who are not currently taking private lessons providing the opportunity to enroll in summer private instruction. A limited number of scholarships will be awarded.
Each scholarship will help supplement the cost of summer lessons. Payment will be made directly to the music school or private teacher. It is the responsibility of the student’s family to cover any remaining cost of lessons for the summer session.

Eligibility requirements:
- The student must be a current DeKalb or Sycamore orchestra or band student, with at least one year of experience in a school music program.
- The student must be between grades 6-12 and will not graduate in 2026.
- The student must not already be enrolled in private lessons on their band or orchestra instrument.
- Scholarships will be awarded for lessons on band and orchestra instruments only.
Application requirements:
- The student must submit the online application (see below) form. This includes attaching an essay in the online application. Parents or family members may assist with completing the application (essay portion should be written by the student).
- The student must select a private teacher from the provided list of approved music teachers/organizations (see below). Please note that rates vary by instructor and families will need to pay the difference in cost beyond the amount of the scholarship. Contact information is provided.
- The student must write a short essay, in their own words, why you want to take summer lessons and how you would benefit from these lessons.
